Learning Management Systems allow us to conduct classes in a virtual space, allowing students to learn from anywhere. This technology has become more important than ever!
Below is an image from one of my Google Classrooms. It shows some of the functions of the program, like posting assignments, starting discussions ("questions"), and general posts to your feed ("stream"). It's customizable, and the user can change such visual features as the header, and can implement organizational systems on its different pages.
Google Classroom is extremely convenient for both teacher and student. Google even has extensions that allow teachers to export grades from Google Classroom directly to certain grade book programs.
Using a Learning Management System can build in organization for teachers and students. As we make the shift to computer-based learning, using technology for purposes other than entertainment can be overwhelming for students, many of whom haven't learned how to create their own organizational systems and time management yet. Instituting Learning Management Systems in the classroom helps everyone to stay organized, communicate with ease, and have quick access to important material.
Using a Learning Management System also corresponds with the International Society for Technology in Education's Standards for Creative Communicators:
- 6a: Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired objectives of their creation or communication
